1850 US Census: Jacob Shimmell, age 45 (b. NYS) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in LeRay Township, Jefferson County, New York. The household also included his son, Alexander Shimmell, age 12 (b. NYS); son, Jacob Shimmell, age 5 (b. NYS); daughter, Louisa Shimmell, age 15 (b. NYS); daughter, Charlotte Shimmell, age 12 (b. NYS); daughter, Betsey Shimmell, age 8 (b. NYS); and daughter, Margaret Shimmell, age 7 9b. NYS).
