Born 1801 in France.  Immigrated to the United States, arriving at New York City on 15 June 1831; naturalized 20 June 1842.  Employed as a farmer in Orleans Township, Jefferson County, New York.

 

1850 US Census: Marcel Simonnet, age 48 (b. France) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Orleans Township, Jefferson County, New York.  His real estate was valued at $2,000.  The household also included his wife, Adele Simonnet, age 38 (b. France); son, Joseph Simonnet, age 11 (b. NYS); son, Augustin Simonnet, age 9 (b. NYS); daughter, Marie Simonnet, age 6 (b. NYS); son, Julien Simonnet age 4 (b. NYS); and daughter, Rosalie Simonnet, age 8 months (b. NYS).

 

1855 NYS Census: Marsel Simonet, age 54 (b. France), was heading a household in Orleans Township, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Adaline Simonet, age 44 (b. France) and employed as a laborer, was heading a household in Orleans Township, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also include his wife, Adaline Simonette, age 53 (b. France) and mother of 7; son, Ugene Simonette, age 18 (b. Jefferson Co., NY), single, and employed as a farmer; daughter, Rosella Simonette, age 16 (b. Jefferson Co., NY) and single; and daughter, Eugenia Simonette, age 5 (b. Jefferson Co., NY).

 

1870 US Census: Marcel Simonet, age 69 (b. France; parents of foreign birth) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Orleans Township, Jefferson County, New York.  His real estate was valued at $10,000 and his personal property was valued at $1,055.  The household also included his wife, Adaline Simonet, age 57 (b. France, parents of foreign birth); son, Eugene Simonet, age 23 (b. NYS) and employed working on the farm; John Kepler, age 17 (b. NYS; parents of foreign birth), and daughter, Eugenia Simonet, age 15 (b. NYS) and "at home."

 

1875 NYS Census: Marsell Semenett, age 74 (b. France) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Orleans Township, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Adalade Somonett, age 62 (b. France).

1870 US Census: Jos Simonet, age 28 (b. NYS; parents of foreign birth) and employed as a lumberman, was heading a household in Croghan Township, Lewis County, New York.  His real estate was valued at $2,200, and his personal property was valued at $300.  The household also included his wife, Alice Simonet, age 24 (b. NYS); son, Jos Simonet, age 2 months (b. Mar 1870 in NYS); Eli Conway, age 26 (b. Canada) and employed as a lumber laborer; Allice Riley, age 18 (b. NYS) and employed keeping house; and Louis Herbert, age 23 (b. NYS) and employed as a lumber laborer.

 

1900 US Census: Joseph Simonett, age 61 (b. Apr 1829 in NYS; parents b. NYS) and not employed, was heading a household in LeRay Township, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included his wife of 33 years, Allice Simonett, age 52 (b. Mar 1848 in NYS; parents b. NYS), who had had 4 children, all still alive.

 

1905 NYS Census: Joseph Simonett, age 74, was heading a household on East LeRay Street in LeRay Township, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Alice Simonett, age 59.

 

1910 US Census: Joseph Simonet, age 72 (b. NYS; parents b. France) and having his "own income," was heading a household at 424 Bridge Street in the City of Watertown, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included his wife of 43 years, Alice G. Simonet, age 63 (b. NYS; parents b. Ireland), who had had 4 children, all still alive.  They both had been married once.

 

1915 NYS Census: Joseph Simonet, age 76, was heading a household in the City of Watertown, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Alice Simonet, age 68.

 

1920 US Census: Joseph Simonet, age 82 (b. NYS; parents b. France) and not employed, resided in the household headed by his son-in-law, Charles Favret (sp), age 50 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS) and employed as a teamster doing general work, in LeRay Township, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Alice Simonet, age 75 (b. NYS; parents b. Ireland); daughter, Mae Favret, age 48 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS); and granddaughter, Ruth Favret, age 19 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS).

 

Joseph Simonet married Alice G. (?) (d. 26 Mar 1926 at Evans Mills, LeRay Twp, Jefferson Co., NY; interred St. Mary Cemetery, Evans Mills) and had the following children:

Jerome Joseph Simonet: (more info) Born 2 April 1870 at Belfort, Croghan Township, Lewis County, New York State.  Died 29 November 1943 at Watertown, New York; interred Black River Cemetery, Rutland Center.  In 1870 was referred to as "Jos" and reported born in March.  In 1900 was employed as a farmer in LeRay Township, Jefferson County, New York.  At some later point he was Manager of the old Eastern Estates Tea Company store in Watertown, Jefferson County.

 

1900 US Census: Jerome, age 30 (b. Apr 1870 in NYS, as were his parents) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in LeRay Township, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included his wife of 5 years, Esther, age 23 (b. Apr 1877 in NYS), had had 1 child, still alive; and daughter, Naoma, age 2 (b. Sep 1897 in NYS).

 

1905 NYS Census: Jerome Simonet, age 35, was heading a household on Watertown and LeRay Street in LeRay Township, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Esther Simonet, age 28; and daughter, Naomi Simonet, age 7.

 

1910 US Census: Jerome Simonet, age 40 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS) and employed as manager of a retail tea company, was heading a household at 414 Broadway Avenue in the City of Watertown, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included his wife of 14 years, Ester Simonet, age 36 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS), who  had had 1 child, still alive; daughter, Naomi Simonet, age 12 (b. NYS); and boarder, Michael Downes, age 46 (b. NYS).

 

1915 NYS Census: Jerome J. Simonette, age 45, was heading a household in the City of Watertown, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Ester H. Simonette, age 38; and daughter, Naomi E. Simonette, age 17;

 

1920 US Census: Jerome Simonet, age 49 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS) and employed as manager of a tea company, was heading a household at 414 Broadway Avenue in the City of Watertown, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Ester Simonet, age 42 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS); and daughter, Naoma Simonet, age 22 (b. NYS), single, and employed as a stenographer for a hospital.

 

1925 NYS Census: Jerome Simonet, age 55, was heading a household in the City of Watertown, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Esther Simonet, age 48; and daughter, Naomi Simonet, age 28.

 

1930 US Census: Jerome J. Simonet, age 60 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS) and employed as proprietor of a tea store, was heading a household at 414 Broadway Avenue in the City of Watertown, Jefferson County, New York.  His home was valued at $5,000 and he was married at age 25.  The household also included his wife, Esther H. Simonet, age 52 (b. NYS; father b. NYS; mother b. English Canada), who was married at age 18; and daughter, Naomi E. Simonet, age 32 (b. NYS), single, and employed as an hygienist in a dentist's office.

 

1940 US Census: Jerome J. Simonet, age 69 (b. NYS) and employed as a retail tea and coffee salesman, was heading a household at 414 Day Street in the City of Watertown, Jefferson County, New York.  He had completed 7th grade.  His home was valued at $4,000.  The household also included his wife, Esther H. Simonet, age 62 (b. NYS), who had completed 7th grade.  They resided in the same house on 1 April 1935.

 

Jerome Simonet married Esther H. Waful (photos) (b. 23 April 1877 at LeRaysville, Jefferson Co., NY, d. Aug 1982 at Watertown; interred Black River Cem., Rutland Center) (Para. 3.h.(3. of gen. 5 of the Waful Annex) on 26 June 1895 and had the following daughter:

 

a. Naomi Esther Simonet: (more info) Born 25 September 1897 at Black River, Jefferson County, New York.  Died 1986 at Mercy Hospital in Watertown, Jefferson County.  Married (1st) Dr. Stanley E. Williams (more info) (b. 1895, d. 28 Jul 1958; interred Black River Cem.) on 29 December 1931.  Married (2nd) Merlin Goodison on 6 August 1960.  No children. (2. Mae A. Simonet: Born about 1872 in New York.  Died ; interred Saint Mary Cemetery, Evans Mills, LeRay Township, Jefferson County, New York.  Married Charles Favret (sp) (b. abt ) and had the following daughter:

 

(a. Ruth M. Favret: (more info) Born 1902 in New York. Married Leslie E. Bowman, son of E. R. and Edith (Countryman) Bowman of Evans Mills, LeRay Township, Jefferson County, New York, on 1 June 1925.

NYS) and employed as a laborer in a brake shop, was heading a household at 140 High Street in the City of Watertown, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included his wife of 3 years, Margaret K. Simonet, age 29 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS), who had had 1 child, no longer alive; roomer, Ferd Haas, age 21 (b. NYS), single and employed as a salesman of tea and coffee; roomer, Frank Reynolds, age 31 (b. NYS), single and employed as a laborer in a brake shop; and roomer, George Reynolds, age 36 (b. NYS), single, and employed as a gardener for a private family.

 

1915 NYS Census: Charles Simonet, age 36, was heading a household in the City of Watertown, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Margaret Simonet, age 34; son, Cecil Simonet, age 3; and son, Donald Simonet, age 3.

 

1920 US Census: Charles H. Simoneth, age 41 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS) and employed as a jeweler in a shop, was heading a household at 220 Orchard Street in the City of Watertown, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Mary C. Simoneth, age 39 (b. NYS; father b. NYS; mother b. Ireland); son, Cecil Simoneth, age 4 years and 8 months (b. NYS); son, Donald Simoneth, age 7 (b. NYS) [appears dates for Cecil and Donald are mixed up]; father-in-law, Clarence Smith, age 78 (b. NYS; father b. NYS; mother b. Canada); and mother-in-law, Mary Smith, age 74 (b. Ireland; parents b. Ireland), who immigrated to the US in 1867 and was naturalized in 1878.

 

1925 NYS Census: Charles H. Simonet, age 45, was heading a household in the City of Watertown, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Margaret C. Simonet, age 44; son, Cecil C. Simonet, age 13; and son, Donald J. Simonet, age 10.

 

1930 US Census: There was a Charles Simonet, age 52 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS) and employed as a jeweler in a jewelry store, heading a household at 538 Lamon Street in the City of Watertown, Jefferson County, New York.  He was married at age 28.  The household also included his wife, Margaret Simonet, age 49 (b. NYS; father b. NYS; mother b. Ireland) and employed as a bookkeeper for a clothing store, who was married at age 26; son, Cecil Simonet, age 18 (b. NYS), single; and son, Donald Simonet, age 14 (b. NYS).

 

1940 US Census: There was a Charles Simonet, age 62 (b. NYS) and employed as a jeweler (own business), was heading a household at 564 State Street in the City of Watertown, Jefferson County, New York.  He had completed 8th grade.  The household also included his wife, Margaret Simonet, age 60 (b. NYS), who had completed 8th grade; and son, Donald Simonet, age 24 (b. NYS), who had completed 3 years of high school.  They all resided in the same house on 1 April 1935.

 

Charles H. Simonet married Margaret K. Smith (b. 21 Nov 1880 in New York, d. Apr 1974, age 94, in Jefferson Co., NY) had the following children:

1940 US Census: Cecil C. Simonet, age 27 (b. NYS) and employed as a machinist in a machine manufacturing company, was heading a household at 504 Gotham Street in the City of Watertown, Jefferson County, New York.  He had completed 4 years of high school.  The household also included his wife, June E. Simonet, age 24 (b. NYS), who had completed 4 years of high school.  The both resided in the same City on 1 April 1935.

 

Cecil Charles Simonet married (1st) Mary White (b. 8 Mar 1911 in NYS at Fort Plain, NY, d. 24 Jan 1991, age 79, in the City of Watertown, Jefferson Co., NY; interred Glenwood Cem. Watertown), daughter of Luke and Elizabeth (Fitzpatrick) White; subsequently divorced.  Cecil and Mary had the following children:

 

(1) Kayellen Simonet: Married (?) Phister.

 

(2) Susan Simonet: Married Raymond Wedgwood.

 

(3) Judith Simonet: Married John Lynd.

 

Mary (White) Simonet married (2nd) Earl Kirby.  Cecil Simonet married (2nd) June E. Hardy (b. abt 1916, d. 24 Mar 1963 at Watertown, Jefferson Co., NY; interred there in Brookside Cem.).

 

(b. Donald J. Simonet: Born about 1916 in New York.  Completed 3 years of high school.  Employed as a music teacher.  Enlisted 4 March 1941 for service during World War II.

1910 US Census: Claude Simmonett, age 28 (b. NYS; parents b. unknown) and employed as an operator for the railroad, was heading a household at 308 Massey Street in the City of Watertown, Jefferson County, New York.  He had been married once.  The household also included his wife of 8 years, Orma Simmonett, age 26 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS), who had had 2 children, both still alive and had been married once; daughter, Mildred Simmonett, age 3 (b. NYS); and son, Reginald Simmonett, age 10 months (b. NYS).

Jul 1854 NYS; parents b. Ireland) and employed as a physician, who had had 4 children, 3 of whom were still alive; daughter, Minnie Simonet, age 21 (b. France) and employed as a druggist in a drug store, was heading a household on Main Street in Croghan Township, Lewis County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Sarah E. Simonet, age 65 (b. NYS; parents b. Ireland) and employed as a doctor in an office.

 

Augustine Simonet married Dr. Sarah Elizabeth Giblin (b. 25 Jul 1854 in NYS, d. 8 Feb 1922 in Croghan Twp, Lewis Co., NY; interred with Augustine), daughter of Bridget Giblin (b. Ireland) and had the following children:

 

(1. Frank M. Simonet: Born about 1873 in New York.  Died before 1880.

 

(2. Lauretta "Laura" E./S Simonet: Born 23 June 1874.  Died 6 January 1951 in Croghan Township, Lewis County, New York; interred there in Saint Stephens Cemetery.

 

1910 US Census: J. J. Buckley, age 31 (b. NYS; father b. Ireland; mother b. NYS) and employed as a driller for an arms company, was heading a household at 19 Elm Street in the Village of Ilion, German Flatts Township, Herkimer County, New York.  The household also included his wife of 3 years, Laura E. Buckley, age 35 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS), who had had 1 child, still alive; and son, Agustine B. Buckley, age 1 (b. NYS).

 

1920 US Census: Jerry J. Buckley, age 41 (b. NYS; father b. Ireland; mother b. NYS) and employed as an inspector in an arms plant, was heading a household at 14 Rand Street in the Village of Ilion, German Flatts Township, Herkimer County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Laura Buckley, age 43 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS); and son, Augustan Buckley, age 11 (b. NYS).

 

1925 NYS Census: Jerry Buckley, age 46, was heading a household in the Village of Ilion, German Flats Township, Herkimer County, New York.  The household also include his wife, Lorretta Buckley, age 44 (b. NYS); and son, Augustine B. Buckley, age 16.

 

1930 US Census: Jerry J. Buckley, age 51 (b. NYS; father b. Ireland; mother b. NYS) and employed as proprietor of a hotel, was heading a household on Main Street in the Village of Bridgewater, Bridgewater Township, Oneida County, New York.  His real estate was valued at $10,000, and he was married at ae 28.  The household also included his wife, Lorretta E. Buckley, age 52 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS), who was married at age 29; son, Augustine B. Buckley, age 21 (b. NYS), single, and employed as a hotel laborer; and servant, Carrol Holmes, age 18 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS), single, and employed as a hotel cook.

 

1940 US Census: Jerry J. Buckley, age 62 (b. NYS) and employed as proprietor of a hotel, was heading a household on Main Street in Bridgewater Township, Oneida County, New York.  His home was valued at $10,000 and he had completed 8th grade.  The household also included his wife, Lauretta E. Buckley, age 62 (b. NYS), who had completed 4 years of high school and was employed as proprietor of a hotel; son Augustine Buckley, age 31 (b. NYS), who had completed 4 years of high school and was employed as assistant manager of a hotel; daughter-in-law, Emma J. Buckley, age 35 (b. NYS), who had completed 1 year of high school and was employed as housekeeper of a hotel; and employee, Carrol Holmes, age 26 (b. NYS) and employed as a hotel chef.

 

Lauretta Simonet married Jeremiah "Jerry" J. Buckley (b. abt 1879 in NYS) and had the following son:

NYS) and employed as a physician, was heading a household in Croghan Township, Lewis County, New York.  The household also included his wife of 6 years, Virginia Spencer, age 23 (b. Jun 1877 in NYS; parents b. NYS), who had had 1 child, still alive; and son, Gerald Spencer, age 4 (b. May 1896 in NYS).

 

1915 NYS Census: Ira D. Spencer, age 47 (b. NYS, was heading a household in Croghan Township, Lewis County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Virginia A. Spencer, age 38 (b. NYS); and son, Girald D. Spencer, age 19 (b. NYS).

Spencer, age 10 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS); servant, Rose Farney, age 38 (b. NYS) and single; and lodger, Emma LaFave, age 57 (b. NYS), single, and employed as an assistant bank cashier.  Of interest, next door was the household headed by Gerald W. Spencer, age 33 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS) and employed as a bond broker in a banking house, who was married at age 31.  The household also included his wife, Gertrude Spencer, age 22 (b. NYS; parents b. NYS), who was married at age 19; and son, Ira D. Spencer, age 1 year and 6 months (b. NYS).

NYS), who had completed 2 years of high school; granddaughter, Marilyn L. Simonet, age 12 (b. NYS); grandson, Murray R. Simonet, age 5 (b. NYS); and two servants, a farm laborer and a domestic helper.

 

Louis Simonet married Korleen C. Nichols (b. 29 Aug 1904 at Great Bend, Champion Twp, NY, d. abt 9 Jul 1990, age 85, at Ogdensburg, St. Lawrence Co., NY), daughter of Ralph and Grace (Zapf) Nichols; subsequently divorced.  Louis and Korleen had the following children:

NYS) and employed as an inspector for the New York Air Brake Corporation, was heading a household at 610 Gotham Street in the City of Watertown, Jefferson County, New York.  The household also included his wife, Carrie Zoller, age 48 (b. NYS; father b. NYS; mother b. English Canada), who; son, Francis L. Zoller, age 21 (b. NYS), single, and employed doing clerical work in a wagon factory; son, Gerald L. Zoller, age 19 (b. NYS), single, and employed as a bookkeeper for a machine shop; son, Frederick Zoller, age 11 (b. NYS); and nephew, Kenneth Semonet, age 20 (b. NYS) and single.

1940 US Census: Doris Simonet, age 44 (b. NYS), divorced, and employed as an operator for the telephone company, resided in the household headed by Cora A. Duffey, age 68 (b. NYS), who had completed 8th grade and resided in the same house on 1 April 1935, at 820 Boyd Street in the City of Watertown, Jefferson County, New York.  Doris had completed 4 years of high school and resided elsewhere in Jefferson County on 1 April 1935.
