1. Biographical notes:
Born 31 March 1814 in Pennsylvania. Died 22
November 1885 in Burlington Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania; interred Luthers Mills Cemetery.
1850 US Census: No record found for Asa Slater. His
wife, who was referred to by her maiden name, Lucinda Rundell,
and his 4 daughters, Alvira Slater, Angeline Slater,
Susan Slater, and Emily Slater, resided in the household headed by Lucinda's
father, Austin Rundell, in Burlington Township,
Bradford County, Pennsylvania.
1860 US Census: Asa
Slater, age 45 (b. PA) and employed as a farm hand, was heading a household in
Burlington Township (Burlington Post Office), Bradford County,
Pennsylvania. His personal property was
valued at $100. The household also
included his wife, Lucinda Slater, age 34 (b. PA); daughter, Alvira Slater, age 19 (b. PA); daughter, Susan Slater, age
13 (b. PA); daughter, Eliza Slater, age 11 (b. PA); daughter, Harriet Slater,
age 8 (b. PA); and son, Simon Slater, age 10 months (b. PA). Of interest, the household headed by his
father-in-law, Austin Rundall, age 58 (b. PA) and
employed as a farmer, was enumerated directly after him on the same census
page.
1870 US Census: Asa
Slater, age 50 (b. PA) and employed as a linsman, was
heading a household in Burlington Township (Burlington Post Office), Bradford
County, Pennsylvania. His real estate
was valued at $500, and his personal property was valued at $300. The household also included his wife, Lucinda
Slater, age 48 (b. PA); son, Burton Slater, age 8 (b. PA); daughter, Alvira Spencer, age 30 (b. PA); grandson, Henry Spencer,
age 6 (b. PA); and granddaughter, Phoeba Spencer, age
3 (b. PA).
1880 US Census: (enumerated 5 Jun 1880; parents b.
PA) Asa Slater, age 66 (b. PA) and employed as a farm
laborer, was heading a household in Burlington Township, Bradford County,
Pennsylvania. The household also
included his wife, Lucinda Slater, age 58 (b. PA; parents b. PA); son, Burton
Slater, age 17 (b. PA; parents b. PA); grandson, Lawrence Wiggins, age 9 (b.
PA; parents b. PA); grandson, Arthur Wiggins, age 6 (b. PA; parents b. PA); and
daughter, Angeline Wiggins, age 37 (b. PA; parents b. PA) and married (no
record of her husband).
1880 US Census: (enumerated 18 Jun
1880) Asa Slater, age 66 (b. PA; parents' birth not
recorded) and employed as a farmer, was also heading a household in West
Burlington Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania. The household also included his son, Burt
Slater, age 17 (b. PA; parents b. PA) and employed as a farm laborer.

Born 5/2 October 1822 in Burlington Township, Bradford County,
Pennsylvania, daughter of Austin and Rhoda
(?) Rundell. Died 26
August 1908 in New Albany Township (also seen: d. Burlington Twp), Bradford
County, Pennsylvania; interred with Asa. Taught school at Athens, Bradford County,
Pennsylvania for 5 years with Helen Minard
(1956-1961), retired 1980. Austin
(b. Jul 1800, d. 24 Jul 1877 in Bradford Co., PA; interred there in the Bailey
Family Cem.) and Phoebe
(Bailey) Rundell. Was the original settler in Bradford County,
moved there from Eaton, New York, settling near where the Girl Scout camp is.
1900 US Census: Lucind
Slater, age 78 (b. Oct 1822 in PA; parents b. PA) and widowed, was heading a
household at 5 Plank Road Street South in Towanda Borough, Bradford County,
Pennsylvania. She had had 9 children, 6
of whom were still alive. The household
also included her son, Burton Slater, age 32 (b. Feb 1868 in PA; parents b.
PA), divorced, and employed as a day laborer.

Pennsylvania. Died 22
January 1930 at Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.
