CT) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Herrick Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  His real estate was valued at $1,500.  The household also included his wife, Mary Squires, age 60 (b. CT); daughter, Susan M. Squires, age 25 (b. PA); son, P. S. Squires, age 20 (b. PA); daughter, Albina P. Squires, age 18 (b. PA); and son, Judson M. Squires, age 16 (b. PA) and employed as a farmer.  Of interest, the household headed by Richard Hillis, age 35 (b. Ireland) was enumerated directly after him on the same census page.

MA) and employed as a capitalist, was heading a household on Broad Street in Lanark, Rock Creek Township, Carroll County, Illinois.  The household also included his wife, Rebecca P. Bixby, age 78 (b. Apr 1822 in PA; parents b. MA), who had had 6 children, 4 of whom were still alive; and sister-in-law, Susan M. Bowen, age 76 (b. May 1824 in PA; parents b. MA), who had had 2 children, 1 of whom was still alive.

Oct 1847 in MO, d. 6 Apr 1921 at Red Oak, Montgomery Co., IA) on 1 April 1870 in Bourbon County, Kansas and had a daughter.

 

(2. Mary Lodema Bixby: (photos) Born 3 March 1847 in PA.  Died 25 March 1888 at Rock Creek, Adams County, Illinois.  Married Leroy Lester Hawes (b. PA; parents b. CT); and son, Asa Bowen, age 11 (b. IL; father b. NYS; mother b. PA).

 

1900 US Census: Susan M. Bowen, age 76 (b. May 1824 in PA; parents b. MA) and widowed, resided in the household headed by her brother-in-law, Asa Bixby, age 78 (b. Oct 1821 in PA; father b. VT; mother b. MA) and employed as a capitalist, in the Village of Lanark, Rock Creek Township, Carroll County, Illinois.  Susan had had 2 children, 1 of whom was still alive.  The household also included Asa's wife of 57 years, Rebecca P. Bixby, age 78 (b. Apr 1822 in PA; parents b. MA), who had had 6 children, 4 of whom were still alive.

Asa Bixby Bowen: (photos) Born 25 October 1868 in Carroll County, Illinois.  Died 11 August 1953 at Omaha, Douglas County, Nebraska; interred Seward Cemetery, Seward, Seward County, Nebraska.  Married Hattie Bernice Stoddard (b. 24 May 1888 at Gold Hill, Boulder Co., CO, d. 30 Mar 1954 at North East, Erie Co., PA; interred there in North East Cem.) in 1906.  Hattie (Stoddard) Bowen resided last with Carl Larson, and her gravestone indicates she used that surname.

 

l. Alice Squires: Born 1826 in New York.  Died 9 May 1902 at Hay Springs, Sheridan County, Nebraska.  Married Howard Connick (b. 1821, d. 1871).

Ireland), widowed, and employed as a farmer, was heading a household on Hillis Road in Herrick Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.  She had had 3 children, all still alive.  The household also included her son, Pembrook N. Squires, age l7 (b. PA; parents b. PA), single, and employed as a farm laborer on the home farm; daughter, Mary A. Squires, age 15 (b. PA; parents b. PA); daughter, Ruth Squires, age 12 (b. PA; parents b. PA); and hired man, James W. Lee, age 30 (b. PA; father b. CT; mother b. Kate Squires married Richard Stewart Hillis "Stewart" (photos) (b. Feb 1858 in Bradford Co., PA, d. there in 1921; interred Camptown), son of Richard and Jane (Nesbit) Hillis (and brother of David Alexander Hillis, who married Mary Frances Biles), of Herrick Township, Pennsylvania (see Para. 3.h. of gen 2 of the Hillis Annex).  Kate and Richard had the following children:
