1850 US Census: William Stewart, age 49 (b. VA) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in District 1, Ohio County, Kentucky.  His real estate was valued at $1,000.  The household also included his wife, Sarah Stewart, age 49 (b. VA); son, John Stewart, age 20 (b. KY); daughter, Mary Stewart, age 18 (b. KY); son, William Stewart, age 16 (b. KY); son, Basil Stewart, age 13 (b. KY); daughter, Margaret Stewart, age 11 (b. KY); daughter, Sarah Stewart, age 9 (b. KY); and son, Jacob Stewart, age 7 (b. KY).

Born about 1834/40 in Kentucky.  Died 8 March 1894; interred Select Cemetery, Ohio County, Kentucky.

 

1860 US Census: Wm N. Stewart, age 26 (b. KY) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Cromwell District, Ohio County, Kentucky.  His personal property was valued at $268.  The household also included his wife, Francis Stewart, age 19 (state of birth not recorded); and daughter, Elenor Stewart, age 1 (state of birth not recorded).  Of interest, the household headed by Granville Stewart, age 35, was enumerated next door, and the household headed by John M. Stewart, age 30 [perhaps William's brother] was enumerated next door to Granville.

 

1870 US Census: Wm N. Stewart, age 36 (b. KY) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Cromwell Precinct, Ohio County, Kentucky.  His real estate was valued at $500 and his personal property was valued at $400.  The household also included his wife, Frances Stewart, age 30 (b. KY); daughter, Edmonia Stewart, age 12 (b. KY); son, Carter Stewart, age 9 (b. KY); son, Virgil Stewart, age 6 (b. KY); son, Ruben Stewart, age 3 (b. KY); father, Seymore Phigley, age 59 (b. KY); and John Phigley, age 16 (b. KY) and employed as a farm hand. 

 

1880 US Census: Wm N. [William Norman] Stewart, age 46 (b. KY) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household at Stewartville, Ohio County, Kentucky.  The household also included his wife, Francis [Phigley] Stewart, age 40 (b. KY); son, Carter P. Stewart, age 18 (b. KY) and employed working on the family farm; son, Virgil Stewart, age 15 (b. KY) and employed working on the family farm; and son, Reuben Stewart, age 13 (b. KY) and employed working on the family farm.  Of interest, Stewart families were enumerated before and after on the same page.

Born 1841 in Kentucky; daughter of Seymour and Martha Ann (Hobdy) Phegley (m. 17 Dec 1834) and granddaughter of immigrants John (b. 24 Jul 1789, d. 8 Feb/Dec 1875) and Delila (Crafton) Phegley (b. 20 Oct 1790, d. 15 Jun 1861).  Died 1901.  Married William Stewart on 9 March 1858 at New Zion Church.

b. Carter P. Stewart: Born 20 January/29 September 1861 in Kentucky.  Died 28 June 1896.  Married Leona Flener.

d. Virgil Marion Stewart: Born 14 January 1865 in Kentucky.  Died 7 September 1914.  Married Maude Tilford (b. 18 Mar 1870, d. 25 Dec 1950), daughter of William Greenup and Mary Elizabeth (Sublett) Tilford, on 28 June 1888, and had the following daughter:

Mary Francis Stewart: (more info) Born 9 March 1893 at Stewartown (later renamed "Select"), Ohio County, Kentucky.  Died 10 April 1969 at Ohio County Hospital, Hartford, Ohio County, Kentucky; interred nearby in Sunnyside Cemetery, Beaver Dam, Ohio County, Kentucky.  Was an accomplished, well-know, and respected musician and music teacher.  After her father died, Mary's mother, Maude, directed Mary's musical talents in the schools of Paris and London, and Maude resided with Mary until she died.  Mary was a longtime resident of Louisville, Kentucky.  She never married.

1900 US Census: Reuben C. Stewart, age 33 (b. Sep 1866 in KY; parents b. KY) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in the Cool Springs Precinct of Cromwell Township, Ohio County, Kentucky.  The household also included his wife of 13 years, Eva Stewart, age 28 (b. Aug 1871 in KY); daughter, Ola Stewart, age 9 (b. Dec 1890 in KY); son, Grover Stewart, age 7 (b. Apr 1893 in KY); daughter, Adelia Stewart, age 4 (b. Apr 1896 in KY); and mother, Francis Stewart, age 60 (b. Mar 1840 in KY) and widowed.

 

1910 US Census: Reuben C. Stewart, age 43 (b. Ohio Co., KY; parents b. Ohio Co., KY) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household on Cromwell & Rosins Road in Cromwell Township, Ohio County, Kentucky.  He had been married once.  The household also included his wife of 23 years, Eva Stewart, age 38 (b. Ohio Co., KY; parents b. Ohio Co., KY), who had been married once and had had 7 children, all still alive; daughter, Ola Stewart, age 19 (b. Ohio Co., KY) and single; son, Grover Stewart, age 17 (b. Ohio Co. KY), single, and employed as a farmer; daughter, Adelia Stewart, age 14 (b. Ohio Co., KY) and single; daughter, Maggie Stewart, age 8 (b. Ohio Co., KY); daughter, Virgie Stewart, age 5 (b. Ohio Co., KY); Opal Stewart, age 3 (b. Ohio Co., KY); and daughter, Ruba Stewart, age 1 (b. Ohio Co., KY).

 

1920 US Census: Ruben Stewart, age 53 (b. KY; parents b. KY) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household on the road (Rt 231) between Hartford and Cromwell in Cromwell precinct, Ohio County, Kentucky.  He owned his residence free and clear.  The household also included his wife, Eva Stewart, age 48 (b. KY; parents b. KY); daughter, Virgie Stewart, age 15 (b. KY); daughter, Opal Stewart, age 13 (KY); daughter, Ruby Stewart, age 11 (b. KY); and son, William Stewart, age 9 (b. KY).

Born 24 August 1871 in Kentucky; daughter of David Austin and Adelia (Thomas) Miller.  Died 1 September 1962.

 

1930 US Census: Eva Stewart, age 58 (b. KY; parents b. KY) and widowed, was heading a household on Main Street in the City of Beaver Dam, Ohio County, Kentucky.  She married 1st at age 15.  Of interest, the household headed by G. C. Stewart, age 37, was enumerated next door.
