1.  Biographical notes:

 

Born 1743 at Bethlehem, Northampton & Lehigh Counties, Pennsylvania.  Died 1823 at Resica, Monroe County, Pennsylvania; interred unmarked grave in the Michael-Walter Cemetery.  Employed as a farmer.  Veteran of the Revolutionary War; enlisted from Bethlehem in Captain Jacob Balliet’s Company.  In 1798 moved his family from Northampton County to Smithfield Township (near Shawnee), Monroe County, Pennsylvania.

Daughter of Henry and Margaret (?) Ace.  Married Henry Strunk in 1766.

Born 1772 in Northampton County, Pennsylvania.  Died 26 May 1866 in Middle Smithfield Township, Monroe County, Pennsylvania.  In 1798 moved with his father to Middle Smithfield Township, Monroe County, Pennsylvania.  Later moved to Wayne County, Pennsylvania, where he cleared a large farm.

Born 1772 in Middle Smithfield Township, Northampton County, Pennsylvania; daughter of John and Polly (Grove) Cooper, who were early settlers of Northampton County.  Died February 1832.  Elizabeth was the half sister of John Cooper, Jr. of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  Married Peter Strunk in 1801 in Northampton County

PA), single, and employed as laborer on the state road; son, Burson Strunk, age 41 (b. PA), single, and employed as a laborer on the state road; and son, Alonzo Strunk, age 39 (b. PA), single, and employed as a laborer on the state road.

1930 US Census: Anna Overfield, age 69 (b. PA; parents b. PA), widowed, and apparently living alone, was heading a household in Middle Smithfield Township, Monroe County, Pennsylvania.

 

Hannah married James Porter/Peter Overfield, son of Dimmick D. and Sarah (?) Overfield, and resided in Middle Smithfield Township, Monroe County, Pennsylvania.  Hannah and James had the following children:

 

(1) Earl Overfield: Born March 1880 in Pennsylvania.  Perhaps died young.

 

(2) Herbert B. Overfield: Born August 1884 in Pennsylvania.

 

1940 US Census: Herbert B. Overfield, age 55 (b. PA), widowed, and employed as a house carpenter, was heading a household next to his brother, Charles, at Shoemakers, Middle Smithfield Township, Monroe County, Pennsylvania.  He had completed 8th grade.  On 1 April 1935 he had resided at Easton, Northampton County, Pennsylvania.  Of interest, he resided next door to his brother, Charles.

 

(3) Charles V. Overfield: Born 14 August 1886 in Middle Smithfield Township, Monroe County, Pennsylvania.  Died 19 January 1968 in Stroudsburg Township, Monroe County, Pennsylvania; interred there in Laurelwood Cemetery.  Employed as a house carpenter.

 

1900 US Census: Charles V. Overfield, age 14, resided with his parents in Middle Smithfield Township, Monroe County, Pennsylvania.

 

1900 US Census: Mary Gunsaulis, age 44 (b. May 1856 in PA; parents b. Ireland) and widowed, was heading a household in Middle Smithfield Township, Monroe County, Pennsylvania.  The household also included her son, William Gunsaulis, age 19 (b. Mar 1881 in PA; parents b. PA) and single; and daughter, Edith Gunsaulis, age 11 (b. May 1889 in PA; parents b. PA).

 

1910 US Census: Charles V. Overfield, age 23 (b. PA; parents b. PA), single, and employed as a house carpenter, resided in the household headed by his father, James P. Overfield, age 61 (b. PA; parents b. PA) and employed as a farmer, in Middle Smithfield Township, Monroe County, Pennsylvania.  The household also included James' wife of 31 years, Anna C. Overfield, age 49 (b. PA; parents b. PA), who had had 3 children, 2 of whom were still alive.

 

1920 US Census: Charles V. Overfield, age 33 (b. PA; parents b. PA) and employed as a house carpenter, was heading a household on State Road in Middle Smithfield Township, Monroe County, Pennsylvania.  The household also included his wife, Edith G. Overfield, age 30 (b. PA; parents b. PA); daughter, Elnora E. Overfield, age 8 (b. PA); son, Charles P. Overfield, age 5 (b. PA); and daughter, Berneta Overfield, age 3 (b. PA).

 

1930 US Census: Charles Overfield, age 43 (b. PA; parents b. PA) and employed as a carpenter, was heading a household in Middle Smithfield Township, Monroe County, Pennsylvania.  He was married 1st at age 23.  The household also included his wife, Edith Overfield, age 41 (b. PA; parents b. PA), who was married 1st at age 21; daughter, Elenora Overfield, age 18 (b. PA) and single; son, Charles Overfield, Jr., age 15 (b. PA) and single; and daughter, Berneda Overfield, age 13 (b. PA).

 

1940 US Census: Charles Overfield, age 53 (b. PA) and employed as a house carpenter, was heading a household at Shoemakers, Middle Smithfield Township, Monroe County, Pennsylvania.  His real estate was valued at $2,500.  He had completed 7th grade and resided in the same house on 1 April 1935.  The household also included his wife, Edith Overfield, age 50 (b. PA), who had completed 4 years of high school; son, Charles P. Overfield, age 25 (b. PA), single, and employed as a truck driver for a lumber mill, who had completed 2 years of high school; daughter, Berneta Overfield, age 23 (b. PA) and employed as a receptionist in a doctor's office, who had completed 1 year of high school; daughter, Peggy Ann Overfield, age 7 (b. PA), who had completed 1st grade; and aunt Ella Strunk, age 75 (b. PA), who had completed 5th grade.  Of interest, his brother, Herbert, age 55, resided next door.

 

Charles V. Overfield married Edyth/Edith "Edie" Gunsaules (b. 20 May 1889; d. 4 Jan 1992 in Stroudsburg, Monroe Co., PA; interred there in Laurelwood Cem.), daughter of Thomas G. (b. PA; father b. PA; mother b. Ireland) and Mary E. (?) Gunsaules (b. PA; parents b. PA) and granddaughter of William (b. PA; parents b. PA) and Mary (?) Gunsaules (b. Ireland; parents b. Ireland) (both families of Middle Smithfield Twp), in 1910 (perhaps the "Aunt Edie Overfield" from whose album the photos of Solomon and Eleanor (Place) Bunnell came - see Bunnell Annex) and had the following children:

 

(a) Elenora Overfield: Born about 1912 in Pennsylvania.

 

(b) Charles P. Overfield: Born about 1915 in Pennsylvania.

 

(c) Berneta Overfield: Born about 1917 in Pennsylvania.

 

(d) Peggy Ann Overfield: Born about 1933 in Pennsylvania.

 

(b. Sarah A. Strunk: Born 1861.

 

(c. Margaret Strunk Born 1863.

 

(d. Rebecca M. Strunk: Born 31 March 1864.  Died 25 April 1885.

 

(e. Ella Strunk: Born about 1865.

 

(12. Lucinda Strunk: Born 31 December 1825.  Died 30 May 1895 in Smithfield Township, Monroe County, Pennsylvania.  Married (1st) Charles “Chit” Walker Davis on 3 February 1848 and had at least the following daughter:

 

(a. Caroline Anne "Anna" Davis: Born 18 February 1849.  Died 15 April 1877.  Married (1st) Jacob Eilenberger and had the following children:

 

(1) Viola Eilenberger: Married Will Heller.

 

(2) Lizzie Eilenberger: Of Shawnee.

 

(3) Edgar Eilenberger: Oldest son.

 

(4) R. J. Eilenberger.

 

Caroline Anne (Davis) Eilenberger married (2nd) (?) Dimmick.

 

Lucinda (Stunk) Davis married (2nd) Samuel “Sam” Courtright of Smithfield Township, Monroe County, Pennsylvania and, perhaps, had the following daughter:

 

(b. Ellen/Jane Courtright: Born 30 October 1860.  Perhaps married (?) Dawson?
