Born 1 September 1811 in Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania.  Died 29 January 1894.  Settled at Spring Hill, Pennsylvania.

 

2.  Wife: Lydia Bunnell

 

Born 22 March 1816; daughter of John and Mary (Place) Bunnell (and sister of Mary (Bunnell) Biles, who married Jacob Place Biles.  Died 8 April 1897.  Married George Sumner on 22/2 March 1835.

a. Archibald B. Sumner: See generation 1, below.

 

b. John B. Sumner: (photos) Born 25 March 1838.  Married Alma Gardner (photos).

 

c. Benjamin Edward Sumner: (photos) Born 2 February 1840.  Killed in action at the Battle of Chancellorsville during the Civil War.

 

d. Savannah A. Sumner: Born 31 August 1842.  Died 1917.  Married Harrison M. Lyon (b. 1840, d. 1922) of Spring Hill and had the following son:

 

(1. George M. Lyon: Born 1869.  Died 1927.

 

e. Corington A. Sumner: Born 8 December 1843.  Died 10 October 1844.

 

f. Corrington J. Sumner: Born 19 March 1845.  Employed as a merchant at New Albany.  Married (1st) Alice Silvara/Sylvaria.  Married (2nd) Zella Ackley.

 

g. Mary Lucy Sumner: (photos) Born 25 December 1849.  Married Daniel Webster Camp “Webster” of Lewisville, Pennsylvania.

 

h. Martha A. Sumner: (photos) Born 22 February 1850.  Married Henry B. Gaylord, a merchant in Wyalusing Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.

 

i. Elnora I. Sumner: (photos) Born 29 December 1851.  Died May 1950.  Married John Black and had the following granddaughter: Harriett Howard.

 

j. Maria Ann Sumner: Born 7 November 1853.  Died young.

 

k. Armina “Minnie” Irene Sumner: Born 3 March 1855.  Died 1950.  Married William Shumway and had the following children: (order uncertain)

 

(1. Gerald Shumway.

 

(2. Grace Shumway: Married Martin Blocker, a brother of Ackley Blocker, and had the following children:

 

(a. Fred Blocker: (more info) Employed as a sales supervisor for Pennsylvania Electric.

l. Ida S. Sumner: Born 26 February 1857.  Died 10 May 1862.

 

m. George Gilbert Sumner “Gilbert”: Born 6 September 1860.  Died 28 September 1944.  Marian Elizabeth Biles wrote: “I went to visit ‘Gilbert’ Sumner with my father.  He was an old man – in bed – and died that year.  He was the last living ‘own cousin’ to my Grandfather, John A. Biles.  He lived just off the road (to the left) from Camptown toward Lawton.”  George Gilbert Sumner married Bertha M. Rockwell (b. 11 Nov 1867) and (perhaps) had the following children:

 

(1. Carlton Sumner: Born 1896.  Died 1900.

 

(2. Fred Carrl Sumner: Born 1901.  Died 1902.

 

(3. Geneive/Genevieve Sumner: Married Howard Fuller.
