Origin of
the surname "Touch:"
Ralph John Torschia, generation 4, below, completed 2 years of
pre-medical school education at the University of Scranton and in 1929 applied
for admittance to Georgetown Medical School.
His application was denied, and he suspected the reason was primarily
because he had an Italian surname. Ralph
reapplied for medical school, this time using the alias "Ralph John
Touch," and his application was accepted.
Since Ralph's professional license to practice medicine was issued under
his alias, he continued to use that name the remainder of his life and gave his
children the surname "Touch."
