capital, Lansing, Michigan.

About 1834 moved with his parents to Jackson, Michigan.

employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Michigan. The household also included his wife,

1880 US Census: Moses W. True, age 49 (b. NH;
parents b. NH) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Blackman
Township, Jackson County, Michigan. The

Born 9 December 1895 in Rives Township, Jackson
County, Michigan. Died November 1967;
interred Jones Cemetery, Jackson Township, Jackson County, Michigan. Completed 10th grade at Jackson
High School, Jackson, Michigan; quit to help on the family farm. Served in the US Army
during World War I. Employed as a farmer near Jackson, Michigan. He and his brother, Howard, jointly operated
two farms close to each other, one of which was awarded a State of Michigan
Centennial Farm Certificate. In 1964
moved to Rockville, Maryland, where they resided next door to their daughter,
Harriett, and son-in-law, Walter Stanley Cool. Their son,
Philip also resided in nearby Springfield, Virginia.
1930 US Census: Leland True, age 34 (b. MI; parents
b. MI) and employed as a farmer, was heading a household in Blackman Township,
Jackson County, Michigan. He married 1st
at age 24. The household also included
his wife, Lillian True, age 29 (b. MI; parents b. MI), who married 1st at age
19; son, Phillip True, age 4 years and 11 months (b. MI); and daughter, age 2
years and 10 months (b. MI).
1940 US Census: Leland True, age 44 (b. MI) and
employed as a farmer, was heading a household at 5 Lansing Avenue in Blackman
Township, Jackson County, Michigan. He
had completed 10th grade and resided in the same house in April 1935. The household also included his wife, Lillian
True, age 39 (b. MI), who had completed 9th grade; son, Phillip True, age 15
(b. MI); and daughter, Harriett True, age 12 (b. MI).

in a 1-room country grammar school (only student in her grade; repeated 8th
grade). Completed 9th
grade at Jackson High School, Jackson, Michigan, but could not afford to
continue; in addition, she had to work so hard for room and board that it made
her ill. Married
Leland Henry True on 19 June 1919 in Stockbridge Township, Ingham County,
Michigan, with Reverend D. T. Perrine officiating.

Graduated from Jackson High School, Jackson, Michigan. Subsequently attended Jackson Junior College
for 1 years.
Enlisted in the US Army Air Forces in December 1945 and served 27 months
as a B-29 navigator. After the War
returned to Jackson Junior College for 1 semester, then
transferred to Western Michigan University, graduating in 1948 with a BA
degree, and in 1950 from the University of Chicago with an MA degree. From 1950 to 1951 taught history at the
University of Missouri, Columbia, Missouri.
In 1951 began working for the Central Intelligence Agency, Washington, D.C.,
retiring in 1983. Moved
to Virginia.
Married Fern Brooks, who earned an MA degree
majoring in education and was subsequently employed as a school teacher and
administrator in Fairfax County, Virginia schools. Fern and Philip had the following children:
