1850 US Census: George Vaughan, age 40 (b. England) and employed as a miner, was heading a household in Norwegian Township, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania.  The household also included his wife, Harriet E. Vaughan, age 40 (b. England); son, Thomas Vaughan, age 20 (b. England) and employed as an engineer; son, Samuel Vaughan, age 18 (b. England) and employed as an engineer; daughter, Mary Vaughan, age 16 (b. England); son, Grace Vaughan, age 11 (b. England); and daughter, Sarah Vaughan, age 10 (b. England).

Born about 1808/10 to relatively wealthy parents in England.  Died .  Married George Vaughan on 6 March 1829 at Ashton-under-Lyne (Manchester area), Lancashire, England.  Of interest, Harriet was engaged to be married to another man, and on her wedding day to that man, she was left waiting at the altar, when, as a practical joke, the groom's attendants locked him up in a small room.  When the groom arrived at the church several hours (or perhaps as much as a day) late, Harriet was not there, having walked away from the church, as well as the engagement.  Harriet subsequently married the footman of her carriage, Samuel Vaughn, a man of no formal education and no other income.  As a consequence Harriet lost her inheritance, and the couple decided to move to the United States.

 

Of further interest, Harriet (Turner) Vaughn wrote verses for gravestones. 

 

1880 US Census: Harriet E. Vaughan, age 72 (b. England; parents b. England), resided in the household headed by her son, Thomas T. Vaughan, age 50 (b. England), on Balliet Street in West Mahanoy Township, Frackville Borough, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania.

a. Thomas T. Vaughan: Born June 1830 at Ashton-under-Lyne, England.  Died in Colorado; interred Cedar hill Cemetery, Castle Rock, Douglas County, Colorado.  Employed as an engineer and machinist.  In 1892 resided at Castle Road, Douglas County, Colorado.  In 1897 resided at Frackville, Pennsylvania (and resided at some point with the Holts).  In 1912 resided at Pueblo, Colorado.

 

1850 US Census: Thomas Vaughan, age 20, resided in the household headed by his father, George Vaughan, in Norwegian Township, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania.

 

1860 US Census: Thomas Vaughn, age 30 (b. England) and employed as a machinist, was heading a household in Tremont Township, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania.  His personal property was valued at $150.  The household also included his wife, Elizabeth Vaughn, age 23 (b. PA); son, Christopher Vaughn, age 2 (b. PA); and Sallie Pugh, age 12 (b. PA) and in school.

 

1870 US Census: Thomas Vaughan, age 40 (b. England) and employed as foreman of a machine shop, was heading a household in Shamokin Borough, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania.  His personal property was valued at $300.  The household also included his wife, Elisabeth Vaughan, age 33 (b. PA); son, Alfred Vaughan, age 10 (b. PA); daughter, Hattie Vaughan, age 8 (b. PA); son, Eddie Vaughan, age 7 (b. PA); daughter, Stella Vaughan, age 5 (b. PA); son, John Vaughan, age 2 (b. PA); daughter, Mary Vaughan, age 2 months (b. PA); and Sallie Dennis, age 20 (b. PA) and employed a school teacher.

 

1880 US Census: Thomas T. Vaughan, age 50 (b. England; parents b. England), widowed, disabled in some way, and employed as a machinist, was heading a household on Balliet Street in West Mahanoy Township, Frackville Borough, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania.  The household also included his son, Alfred G. Vaughan, age 19 (b. PA), single, and employed as a laborer; daughter, Hattie E. Vaughan, age 18 (b. PA); daughter, Estella H. Vaughan, age 14 (b. PA); son, John P. Vaughan, age 12 (b. PA) and disabled in some way; daughter, Mary H. Vaughan, age 9 (b. PA); and mother, Harriet E. Vaughan, age 72 (b. England).

 

1900 US Census: Thomas Vaughn, age 70 (b. Jun 1830 in England), widowed, and employed as an engineer, resided as a boarder in the household headed by Murise Burchill, age unknown, on Washington Street in West Mahanoy Township, Frackville Borough, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania.

 

1910 US Census: Thomas T. Vaughan, age 79 (b. England; parents b. England), widowed, and employed as a machinist (locomotive & stationary) resided in the household headed by his son-in-law, William H. Schropp, age 43 (b. PA; parents b. Switzerland) at 219 Michigan Avenue, City of Pueblo, Pueblo County, Colorado.

 

Thomas T. Vaughan married Elisabeth Pugh (b. 1836) and had the following children:

 

(1. Christopher Vaughan: Born about 1858 in Pennsylvania.  Perhaps died young (before 1870).

 

(2. Alfred G. Vaughan: Born about 1860 in Pennsylvania.

 

(3. Hattie Vaughan: Born about 1862 in Pennsylvania.  Married Edward Speidel about 1886 at Frackville, Pennsylvania.

 

(4. Eddie Vaughan: Born about 1863 in Pennsylvania.

 

(5. Estella "Stella" H. Vaughan: Born about 1865 in Pennsylvania.  Died ; interred Roselawn Cemetery, Pueblo, Pueblo County, Colorado.

 

1910 US Census: William H. Schropp, age 43 (b. PA; parents b. Switzerland) and employed as at railroad conductor, was heading a household at 219 Michigan Avenue, City of Pueblo, Pueblo County, Colorado.  He had been married once.  The household also included his wife of 21 years, Estella H. Schropp, age 43 (b. PA; father b. England; mother b. PA), who had been married once and had 2 children, both still alive; daughter, Bess V. Schropp, age 19 (b. CO; parents b. PA), single, and not employed; and daughter, Louise R. Schropp, age 16 (b. CO; parents b. PA), single, and not employed; and father [in-law], Thomas T. Vaughan, age 79 (b. England; parents b. England), widowed, and employed as a machinist (locomotive & stationary), who immigrated to the US in 1852 (subsequently naturalized).

 

1920 US Census: Estella H. Schropp, age 54 (b. PA; father b. England; mother b. MI), widowed, and employed as a housekeeper for a private family, resided in the household headed by her son-in-law, Everett R. Brown, age 30, in the City of Denver, Denver County, Colorado.

 

1930 US Census: Estelle Schropp, age 65 (b. PA; parents b. England), widowed, and not employed, resided in the household headed by her son-in-law, Everette Brown, age 39, in the City of Denver, Denver County, Colorado.

 

1940 US Census: Estelle H. Schropp, age 74 (b. PA) and widowed, who had completed 8th grade, resided in the household headed by her son-in-law, Everette R. Brown, age 49, in the the City of Denver, Denver County, Colorado.

 

Estella H. Vaughan married William H. Schropp (b. 1866, d. 7 Jan 1922, age 55; interred with Stella) and had the following children:

 

(a. Elizabeth "Bess" Vaughan Schropp: Born 19 October 1890 in Pueblo County, Colorado.  Died 6 April 1940, age 49 years, 5 months, and 18 days; took her own life (arsenic poisoning) at home in Los Angeles County, California; interred Rose Hills Memorial Park, Whittier, Los Angeles County, California.

 

1918 WWI Draft Registration: Elisha Cecil Brown, age 33 (b. 30 May 1885) and employed as a farmer, resided with his wife, Bess Brown, at Castle Rock, Douglas County, Colorado.

 

1920 US Census: E. Cecil Brown, age 33 (b. IA; parents b. IA) and employed as bookkeeper for the railroad, was heading a household on Lena Street in Ridgway Township, Ouray County, Colorado.  The household also included his wife, Bess V. Brown, age 29 (b. CO; parents b. PA); daughter, Betty Lou Brown, age 4 years and 8 months (b. CO); and son, Richard Brown, age 3 years and 4? months (b. CO).

 

1930 US Census: Elisha C. Brown, age 38 (b. IA; father b. OH; mother b. IN) and employed as a clerk for the railway, was heading a household in the City of Inglewood, Inglewood Township, Los Angeles County, California.  He married 1st at age 24.  The household also included his wife, Bessie V. Brown, age 39 (b. CO; parents b. PA); daughter, Betty Lou Brown, age 14 (b. CO); son, Richard C. Brown, age 13 (b. CO); and son, James W. Brown, age 1 year and 4 months (b. CA).

 

1940 US Census: Elisha Brown, age 49 (b. IA) and employed as secretary for the President of a street railway, was heading a household at 1627 Hi Point Street in the City of Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California.  He had completed 2 years of college.   The household also included his wife, Besse Brown, age 49 (b. CO), who had completed 3 years of college; and son, James Brown, age 11 (b. CA), who had completed 5th grade.  On 1 April 1935 they resided in the same city.

 

Elizabeth Schropp married Elisha Cecil Brown (b. 30 May 1885 at Allerton, Wayne Co., IA, d. 18 Apr 1943, age 57 yrs, 10 mo, 18 days, from complications of a benign brain tumor, at Rice Hospital, Los Angeles, Los Angeles Co., CA), son of Jacob, Jr. and Ann Elizabeth (Fordyce) Brown, on 21 July 1912 at Pueblo, Pueblo County, Colorado and had the following children:

 

(1) Elizabeth Louise "Betty Lou" Brown: Born 23 October 1915 in Salida Township, Chaffee County, Colorado.  Died 13 December 1993.  Married (?) Ewing and had at least the following son:

 

(a) Joseph Ewing.

 

(2) Richard Cecil Brown: Born 5 February/January 1917 at Salida, Chaffee County, Colorado.  Died 18 September 1989 at Walla Walla, Walla Walla County, Washington; interred there in Mountain View Cemetery.

 

At age 28 married, as her 2nd husband, widow Fairy Anne (Fitzgerald) Crosley (b. 5 Apr 1917 at Los Angeles, CA, d. 17 Oct 1998 at Vancouver, Clark Co., WA; interred with Richard), age 27, daughter of Erwin Glenn and Ada Ann (Southerland) Fitzgerald, on 14 January 1945 in Los Angeles County, California.

 

Fairy Fitzgerald had married (1st) LeRoy Berton Crosley (b. 9 Apr 1916 at Kutch, Elbert Co., CO, d. 7 Oct 1943 at Rochester, Olmsted Co., MN), son of Bert Roscoe and Therese Marie (Davies) Crosley, on 16 October 1938 at Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California.

 

(3) James "Jim" William Brown: Born 8 December 1928 at Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California.  Died 11 April 2017 at Laramie, Albany County, Wyoming; interred there in Saint Mathews Cathedral Columbarium.  Married Joyce (?) and had the following children:

 

(a) Amy Brown: Married (?) Welsh and had the following children: (order uncertain)

1920 US Census: Everett R. Brown, age 30 (b. CO; father b. English-speaking Canada; mother b. IL) and employed as a florist for a department store, was heading a household at 426 Clayton Street in the City of Denver, Denver County, Colorado.  The household also included his wife, Louise R. Brown, age 26 (b. CO; parents b. PA) and employed as a saleswoman for a department store; and mother-in-law, Estella H. Schropp, age 54 (b. PA; father b. England; mother b. MI), widowed, and employed as a housekeeper for a private family.

 

1930 US Census: Everett Brown, age 39 (b. CO; father b. English-speaking Canada; mother b. IL) and employed as owner of a florist shop, was heading a household at 629 South Vine Street in the City of Denver, Denver County, Colorado.  He married 1st at age 25.  The household also included his wife, Louise Brown, age 36 (b. CO; parents b. PA) and employed as bookkeeper and saleslady in a florist shop, who married 1st at age 22; and mother-in-law, Estelle Schropp, age 65 (b. PA; parents b. England), widowed, and not employed.

 

1940 US Census: Everett R. Brown, age 49 (b. CO) and employed as proprietor of a florist shop, was heading a household at 1225 Logan Street in the City of Denver, Denver County, Colorado.  His residence was valued at $3,000, and he had completed 2 years of high school.  The household also included his wife, Louise R. Brown, age 46 (b. CO) and employed as partner in a florist shop, who had completed 4 years of high school; and mother-in-law, Estelle H. Schropp, age 74 (b. PA) and widowed, who had completed 8th grade. On 1 April 1935 they resided in the same house.

 

Louise Schropp married Everett Robert Brown (b. 12 Sep 1890 in Denver Co., CO, d. 24 Feb 1984 at San Diego, San Diego Co., CA) on 4 September 1915 in Denver County, Colorado; apparently no children.

 

(6. Robert Vaughan: Born about 1866.

 

(7. John P. Vaughan: Born about 1868 in Pennsylvania.

 

(8. Mary Hazelhurst Vaughan: Born about 1870 in Pennsylvania.  Died about 1950 in Colorado.  Married Charles Elias Phillips (b. 1877, d. 1954) on 10 October 1900 at Pueblo, Pueblo County, Colorado and had children.

 

(9. Margaret Vaughan: Born January 1875 in Pennsylvania.

 

b. Samuel Seel Vaughan: Born about 1832 at Ashton-under-Lyne, England.

 

c. Mary Hazelhurst Vaughan: Born about 1834 at Ashton-under-Lyne, England.

Note: one of these daughters of George and Harriet had a son, William Francis (?) (b. 12 Oct 1873), who was adopted by Maurice and Grace Elizabeth (Vaughan) Burchill, generation 4, below.

Born 4 April 1841 at London, England.  Died 1902; interred Odd Fellows Cemetery, Frackville, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania.  Married Maurice "Morris" Burchill, generation 4 of the Burchill Annex, on 4 August 1855.
