1. Biographical notes:

 

Born 25 March 1879 in European Russia.  Died .  Immigrated to the US in 1890.

 

1905 NYS Census: No record found for either David or Rosa.

 

1910 US Census: David Wittenberg, age 30 (b. Russia; parents b. Russia & spoke yiddish) and employed as a hair dresser in a parlor, was heading a household at 479 6th Avenue in Manhattan Borough, New York City, New York.  He had been married once, and he immigrated to the US in 1890.  The household also included his wife of 11 years, Rosa Wittenberg, age 26 (b. Austria; parents b. Austria & spoke yiddish) and employed as a hair dresser in a parlor, who immigrated to the US in 1892, had been married once, and had had 3 children, all still alive; daughter, Francis Wittenberg, age 8 (b. NYS); son, Sidney Wittenberg, age 5 (b. NYS); and daughter, Beatrice Wittenberg, age 2 (b. NYS).

 

1915 NYS Census: David Wittenberg, age 35, was heading a household in New York City, New York.  The household also included his son, Sydney Wittenberg, age 11, resided with his parents in New York City, New York, and perhaps others. (pg 23)

 

1920 US Census: David Wittenberg, age 39 (b. Russia; parents b. Russia & spoke Yiddish) and employed as a merchant in a dress house, was heading a household the Borough of Bronx, New York City, New York.  He immigrated to the US in 1890.  The household also included his wife, Rose Wittenberg, age 37 (b. Austria; parents b. Austria & spoke yiddish), who immigrated to the US in 1890 and was employed as a sales lady in a dress house; daughter, Frances Wittenberg, age 18 (b. NYS), single, and employed as a sales lady in a dress house; son, Sidney Wittenberg, age 15 (b. NYS); and daughter, Beatrice Wittenberg, age 12 (b. NYS).

Born about 1883 in Austria; daughter of Lemil and Fanie (Reisig) Reich.  Died .  Immigrated to the US in 1892.  Married David Wittenberg on 4 July 1900 in Manhattan Borough, New York City, New York.

Born 13 September 1904 in the Borough of Manhattan, New York City, New York.  In 1964 resided at Westfield, New Jersey.

 

1925 NYS Census: Sidney A. Wittenberg, age 20, resided with his parents in the City of Utica, Oneida County, New York. (pg 54)

 

1930 US Census: Sidney Wittenburg, age 25 (b. NYS; father b. Russia in Europe; mother b. Austria) and employed as manager of a shoe store, was heading a household at 77 Palm Street in the City of Bridgeport, Fairfield County, Connecticut.  He married 1st at age 22.  The household also included his wife, Shirley Wittenburg, age 24 (b. Russia in Europe; parents b. Russia in Europe), who immigrated to the US in 1910 and married 1st at age 21; and daughter, Delores Wittenburg, age 4 months (b. CT).

 

1940 US Census: Sidney Wittenberg, age 35 (b. NYS) and employed as district manager of a chain shoe store, was heading a household at 29 Emerson Avenue in the City of Utica, Oneida County, New York.  He had completed 1 year of college.  On 1 Apr 1935 he and his immediate family resided at Boston, Massachusetts.  The household also included his wife, Shirley Wittenberg, age 34 (b. Russia), who had completed 3 years of high school; daughter, Dolores Wittenberg, age 10 (b. CT), who had completed 5th grade; son, Jack D. Wittenberg, age 7 (b. OH), who had completed 2nd grade; and mother-in-law, Ida Yatkowsky, age 65 (b. Russia) and widowed, who resided at Norwich, Chenango County, New York on 1 April 1935.

Born about 1906 in Russia; daughter of (?) and Ida Yatkowsky (b. abt 1875 in Russia).  Immigrated to the US in 1910.
